Your Jesters Guide to Bristol

Accommodation
Our party is being held in the Clifton area of Bristol, so here are the names of some hotels in the area, some will be pricier than others, and a booking site to use is the one below, which I’ve used in the past and found really useful.
The Clifton Hotel
The Westbourne Hotel
The Rodney Hotel
Berkeley Square Hotel
Victoria Square Hotel

In the centre is a nice cheap place with plenty of rooms called the Premier Inn (Bristol Haymarket Hotel) it’s a bit further away from the party venue, but at least it’s definitely a reasonable room rate.

Keep checking this post as I will keep updating it if I find better hotels to choose from.
If you’re not sure about an area or a particular venue, let me know – I might know it, and might even pop and have a look to check it out for you, if I’m at all unsure – I’d love to be any help I can for you so that you have a really enjoyable stay here.
Getting here
For those who are arriving by plane, I’m offering to come and pick you up, as it’ll save you a £20 taxi fare. This will obviously get arranged in more detail nearer the time when we know what people are doing, but I can pick up a few people if they’re arriving at a similar time. I’ve always wanted to be one of those people in an airport holding a piece of cardboard with someone’s name on it – it looks so intriguing!! Maybe my cardboard will simply say “Jesters” – see how many people dare to come and ask me about it!
Here’s the website to the airport though, and there’ll be the taxi booking page if you want it – under the “Getting to the Airport” link.

The train station to travel to (there are a couple of others) is Bristol Temple Meads. This drops you right in the centre of town and there’s a heap of taxis and buses right outside to get you about if you’re staying more than a walk away.

The Weather
For those of you not native to our soil and wanting to know just how cold or wet it'll be - you're probably going to be coming to one of the warmer areas of Britain, and Bristol seems to have it's own weird weather system which changes entirely once you reach it's outskirts, but think coldish and wet and you'll be about there. I'm thinking in November it'll be anything from about 5C to 15C - the rain might have stopped by then, but I can't guarantee it. Bring a jacket and an umbrella and you'll be fine.
About Bristol
In a recently researched article it was found that Bristol has been voted one of the most popular places to live in Britain and voted one of the top three most popular cities.
And why not, if you’re sharing your home with Wallace and Gromit, the SS Great Britain, Only Fools and Horses, the world’s first test tube baby, the Clifton Suspension Bridge (which I’ll never get tired of seeing!), Massive Attack, Tricky, Concorde, The Bristol Old Vic, haunted pub The Llandoger Trow, The Wurzels, Banksy, John Cleese and not forgetting Vicky Pollard! The Balloon Fiesta, the Harbourside Festival, the Kite Festival on 400 acres of parkland right in the centre of the city known as the Durdham Downs… somebody stop me!
If you want to take some time to see a little of this gorgeous city, then please visit the website where I’m shamelessly plagiarising information from:

For the shoppers amongst you, by the time you arrive in November, there will be a sparkly brand new shopping centre open right in the centre of town which has been a good 2 or 3 years in the making, and it’ll be known as Cabot’s Circus. I’m not a fan of big square piles of glass and concrete but my friends assure me it looks cool and is a definite improvement on what was there… so they say! Hehe. All I know is Harvey Nichols is coming to town – yippee!
Also in keeping with the Clifton theme, then Clifton Village has lots of quaint little boutiques to potter around.
It’s also home to Nickie “Ravenswing” Morgan and her lovely husband-to-be Chris “The Badger” Blandford, your friendly local Jesters tour guides.

If you have any questions at all, even something you think might be a silly trivial thing, then drop me a mail on nickie_morgan@hotmail.com or speak to me in-game, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Hmmm, that email doesn't come out very well cos it's underlined... there's an underscore _ between nickie and morgan.
